I am an engineer who wants to improve environmental management outcomes. To that end, I create and use computer models that describe how environmental systems work and how decisions can affect them. I have a broad engineering and management skillset, including 11 years of research and consulting experience, with expertise in water, energy, and infrastructure systems. I am seeking a career that capitalizes on my analytical, management, and communication skills to help solve pressing environmental issues.

Growing up in Maine sparked my interest in environmental management. In Maine, where natural resources form the base of the economic pyramid, I learned about the importance of thoughtful environmental management to preserve both human health and economic well-being. My parent’s generation remembers when the state’s rivers ran green with industrial pollution. Thanks to both technological and regulatory advances over the past several decades, humans and animals now enjoy a cleaner and safer environment. However, there are still environmental challenges – both new and old – and often there is not an obvious solution. My professional goal is to use my technical and behavioral expertise to help inform these challenging environmental management decisions, such as identifying priorities or designs that are the most likely to succeed.

I left Maine after high school to attend Princeton University, where I completed a BSE. in civil & environmental engineering. After graduating from Princeton, I worked for three years in the Washington, D.C., at a global environmental consulting firm. Working in the litigation support, due diligence, and compliance assistance practice areas, this experience broadened my exposure to the field of environmental engineering and provided me with valuable insights about how environmental technologies, regulations, and policies work in practice. Wanting to enhance my understanding of how to address environmental challenges, I enrolled in graduate studies at Stanford. As I completed an MS and PhD in environmental engineering, I researched how cities can increase their water security by recharging groundwater using a combination of stormwater and recycled water (highly purified wastewater).

In addition to environmental management, I am interested in organizational management and strategy, with experience managing and projects related to engineering, diversity, inclusion, administration, and education. With a goal of leading diverse stakeholder teams to produce high-quality technical work effectively and efficiently, I have pursued formal training and practical experience through university leadership roles, including serving as an officer of a multi-university diversity & inclusion committee. To formally enhance my management skills, in 2019 I will complete an MS in management science & engineering at Stanford.
